I am proud and thankful to have been able to cover Amherst Steele High School’s graduation ceremony this past week. It was one unlike any I’ve seen before, and — with respect to those dedicated educators who worked hard to put it together in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic — a kind I hope we don’t have to endure again. This year’s seniors grew up in a post-9/11 world, and approached their socially-distanced ceremony with the understanding that sacrifice is often a part of life. They marched across the solitary stage with dignity despite the circumstances, a generation that has learned character through their schooling as well as math, science and reading. Good luck, Class of 2020. I’m cheering for you.
