Thanksgiving is time to help others through giving

While many of us look toward Thanksgiving as a time to gather for a meal with family and friends, let us remember a program that reaches out to feed those in need year around.

For over 35 years, the Oberlin Weekday Community Meals program has provided a hot, nutritious dinner five days a week, 50 weeks a year for persons here in Oberlin and the surrounding area.

Meals are served weekdays from 5-5:30 p.m. in the parish hall of Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin and OWCM welcomes anyone in need of a hot meal, served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The Oberlin Weekday Community Meals program would not exist without dedicated volunteers who serve the nightly meals prepared by cook Richard Bell, and it would not be possible without the generosity of grants and donations from both organizations and individuals. This summer, grants from the Nord Family Foundation and the Bill Long Foundation helped fund

needed upgrades to the kitchen where the meals are prepared. Contributions from anyone willing and able to help cover food costs and the occasional need for paper products and cleaning supplies.

As Thanksgiving and other holidays approach, please consider a gift to help OWCM with its outreach and keep in mind that volunteers are always needed and welcome. Donations, with checks made out to Oberlin Weekday Community Meals (or to Christ Episcopal Church with OWCM in the memo line), can be sent to the church at 162 South Main St., Oberlin, OH 44074. Contributions of any size are greatly appreciated. Individuals willing to volunteer, whether on a regular basis or even just now-and-then, are urged to call the church office at 440-775-2501 to schedule a time to help.
