Oberlin: New American flags gifted to city

The Karl Wilson Locke Post of the American Legion has donated a new set of 50 all-weather American Flags to be flown in downtown Oberlin this coming year in recognition of the Legion’s centennial establishment in Paris, France, in 1919.

The Legion included an additional set of six POW-MIA “You Are Not Forgotten” flags to make up for the additional new led lighting installed downtown this year.

Oberlin Post 102 provided the first set of 50 all-weather flags that adorned the then-new downtown lighting during the celebration of the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution in 1989.

In a release, chaplain Tony Mealy said the Legion remains appreciative that the city continues to decorate downtown lights with “Old Glory” and would like to thank the Oberlin Municipal Light and Power System and the Lorain County Veterans Services for assistance in the placement and acquisition of the flags for the past 30 years.
