The arrival of Santa this Friday in the 2018 Miracle on Main Street parade will signal the start of the holiday season in Amherst.
The big man in red may be the star, but he’s only one part of the holiday extravaganza.
Presented by Main Street Amherst and Sliman’s Sales and Service, the annual event will kick off at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 7 with a performance by the Madrigals of Steele High at town hall.
Led by the Amherst Marching Comets, the Christmas parade will start at 6 p.m. from the Amherst Public Library on Spring Street and travel west through the city’s heart on Park Avenue.
Community caroling will follow at the Five Points bandstand, then Santa Claus himself will light the city’s Christmas tree.
Main Street encourages everyone to stick around afterward and explore downtown shops.
The Main Street Community Center on Park Avenue will be open for festivities, including a model train table created by the Papay family.
